The City of Turku Art Collection comprises around 12,000 works and is managed by WAM Turku City Art Museum. The collection focuses on art from the Southwest Finland region, contemporary art, and sculpture and three-dimensional art.
Visual artist Saana Murtti (b. 1974) has studied fine art and ceramics in Wales and at Aalto University, among other places, and also works as an art educator. Her ceramic sculptures are based on the forms of used everyday objects, exploring humanity through ordinary items in a universal way. In the Disappearances series, stacks of clothing or textiles are piled on top of shoes.
The ceramic sculpture From the Disappearances series (1/2022–2023) has previously been shown at the International Ceramics Biennial in France in 2024 and at an invited exhibition at the Nantes Museum of Arts in 2023. The work is a strong addition to the City of Turku Art Collection, particularly in the field of contemporary sculpture.
